My assignment was to create a lesson introducing young children to the American Chestnut Tree. Issues to communicate were the importance of the Chestnut to American forests, the blight which rendered the tree functionally extinct, and current efforts in Chestnut restoration. These are heavy issues to present to young children, so I designed and illustrated my presentation as a story aimed at youngsters. I created a set of wildlife illustrations, and set up an activity where the campers cut out the illustrations to create their own American Chestnut forest ecology.
